A favorite spot among locals and vacationers alike, The Hitching Post Bar & Grill on Glidden Drive is back!!

Andy Ripp and his wife, Carolyn reopened The Hitching Post Bar & Grill in September, 2018. Although there have been other names for the restaurant, the long-term history of the venue is known to locals and regular vacationers as The Hitching Post.

Carolyn and Andy’s menu offerings include everything from appetizers to salads, sandwiches, burgers, and wraps with a special Friday Fish Fry menu. A new addition includes coffee drinks, including specialty lattes, cappuccinos, and mochas; you can even specify milk choices and request added flavors.

“We are excited to expand our coffee selection,” says Carolyn, “our customers who like to walk in the mornings say that it gives them a reason to get some exercise, if they know their destination includes a hot beverage!”

The log building was built by Ewald Schmock in 1949. The Hitching Post restaurant first came to be in 1956, when Marilyn Marr and Bill Koepp, Jr., or “Marney” and “Buggs,” purchased the lot that the log building stands on, turning it into a restaurant and bar. After several more owners, transformations, and name changes, the Hitching Post Bar & Grill is back and the locals and vacationers couldn’t be happier.

Sandy Montgomery, a visitor to Door County since she was a child shared,

When we were kids we’d walk there from Grandma & Grandpa Moeller’s for root beer floats! Grandpa had a fishing shanty at the crick and spent his life as a sturgeon fisherman. Two of our uncles were Earl, Omer Moeller! At our last family reunion, my sisters and I visited & came to the Hitching Post! For the first time we we’re old enough to have a beer! We all hope to return again this summer for a much-needed sister trip!
